One of the most influential individuals in the formulation of Jim Blackburn’s carbon offset initiative is documentary filmmaker Peter Byck. Peter is a professor of practice at Arizona State University in both the School of Sustainability and the Cronkite School of Journalism. He teaches filmmaking for environmental subjects and has also directed a great number of environmental documentary films including Garbage, a documentary on refuse, Carbon Nation, a film about closing the carbon cycle, and Soil Carbon Cowboys about adaptive multi-paddock grazing. Peter met (and interviewed) Jim for Garbage, and the research in AMP grazing that has motivated much of his current filmmaking was instrumental in Jim’s development of The Texas Coastal Exchange and BCarbon. Our interview covers Peter’s regenerative agriculture journey, crossing paths with Jim, and his take on the future challenges in taking AMP grazing to scale.
Peter Byck arranged for us to shoot his interview in the museum at the Walter Chronkite School of Journalism,
Arizona State University. ASU has been supportive of his projects.
